Course Description

Effective communication is about accurate delivery, transmission, reception and interpretation of messages. Active listening and “Perception check, Paraphrasing and Summarizing” (PPS) are the essential skills to facilitate effective communications between the disputing parties and mediator throughout the mediation process. Besides facilizing disputing parties in identifying their needs and setting negotiable agenda with the view to reaching an agreement towards settling their disputes, these skills would enhance the positive momentum for discussion and negotiation in mediation meetings.

Learning Objectives

Active listening and PPS are the essential communication skills practitioners could employ to strengthen the understanding of the parties’ needs and apply in both real-life mediation meetings and the assessments once they have mastered them. This course aims to provide intermediate level skillset of active listening and PPS to our student mediators. Our advanced course equips you with the skills and confidence to use them more effectively in conversations and mediation.
