Course Description

The “Practice direction 31” has indicated professional mediation shows a significant position in dispute resolution. The flexible and professional mediation process allows professionally qualified mediators to explore with parties the underlying interests and needs that beyond litigation positions can cover and protect. Its success relies on numerous factors, and detailed preparation work prior to mediation meetings plays a crucial role in separating disputing parties further away or bringing them together for the peaceful conflict resolution process.

Learning Objectives

Preparation is the key to a successful mediation. Mediators are often taught in courses on the foundation process and skills required in mediation meetings. However, very little is known about the key feature of the process, preparation, knowledge, and skills required for the prep-meeting session of a mediation process. This course serves and beginner and intermediate sessions to our participants on the proper knowledge and skills needed for professionally conducted mediation preparation. We are proud to have invited Prof. Francis Law, an internationally recognized professional trainer, mediation assessor, and dispute resolution consultant to be the trainer of this course.

Biography

Prof. Law is an experienced international business consultant and expert in dispute resolution. He has more than 30 years of experience in Public Administration Management, Human Resources, Conflict Management, and corporate development. Prof. Law has expertise in organizational development, competency building, leadership development, performance management, and executive coaching.

Prof. Law is also a columnist for publishing articles in commercial and workplace disputes in local newspapers/ magazines. Since 2016, he has been leading delegations to attend the United Nations Commission of International Trade Law Sessions and presented professional comments and contributed to the Mediation Conversion. Prof. Law was awarded a Certificate of Commendation by the Secretary of Home Affairs to command for his dedicated services and outstanding contribution to the promotion of mediation professional services.

Terms & Conditions

A. Places will be allocated on the first-come-first-served basis according to the payment date.

B. Registration must be made by returning the completed application form via google link and sending the crossed-cheque or copy of the bank-in slip to Room 506, 5/F, West Wing, Justice Place, 11 Ice House Street, Central, Hong Kong on or before the deadline as advised. Confirmation will be notified by email upon successful registration on or before one working day after the deadline.

C. If you do not receive an email confirmation from the Secretariat after one-day after the application deadline, your name will be on the waitlist. Your submitted cheque will be voided subsequently by the Secretariat if you have not been assigned a place the captioned course. If your application fee was made by bank transfer, a cheque will be issued to you as the refund.

D. If you are not able to attend the captioned course upon receipt of the confirmation email, you are required to inform the Secretariat as soon as you are aware of your unavailability on/before the course date by email. No refund will be made after confirmation.

E. Participants must sign in and sign out. Participants who are late for more than 20 minutes or leave earlier of each session will not be qualified for the completion of IDRRMI’s & MHJMC’s & HKMC’s CPD Points in respective sessions.

F. AIDRN reserves the right to accept / reject the registration.

G. If typhoon signal no.8 or above or black rainstorm warning signal is hoisted and not lowered by 2 hours before the lesson starts, the course will be postponed or cancelled. Rescheduled date / time / venue will be announced in due course.

H. In case of any disputes, AIDRN reserves the right to make final decisions.
